Nieuwe woordjes/ new words

We zijn bij het zwembadje in het park. Met de jongste, druipend in een handdoek op schoot, kijken we op een afstand naar de oudste, die nog lekker aan het poedelen is. De jongste heeft het daar nu even te koud voor en babbelt vrolijk tegen me aan. Dan draait zijn blik weer terug naar het zwembad, waarop hij me vraagt 'waar is ze nou?' waarop ik met m'n hand wijs en zeg;
'Daar, bij de zeemeerminnen', wijs ik. Dan ziet-ie haar.
'Dat zijn geen meerminnen', is het antwoord, gevolgd door, 'dat is 1 zeemeermin en vissen'. Ik schater.
'Detail', proest ik vrolijk.
'Detaj', papegaait-ie na. Ik ben helemaal verbaasd. Totdat de volgende zin eruit rolt:
'Wat is detaj?'
Zucht, nooit moeilijke woorden gebruiken die niet in twee tellen zijn uit te leggen, neem ik me voor...


We are at the swimmingpool in the park. The youngest is dripping in a towel on my lap and we watch the oldest one on a distance, who is having a great time in the water. The youngest just got a bit too cold for that, so he's chatting along, moving his head in every direction. Then he looks back at the pool, asking me 'where is she gone?' so I give him direction with my hand and say'
'There, over the mermaids'. He sees her.
'Those aren't mermaids' is the answer I get, followed by 'that's 1 mermaid and fishes'. I laugh.
'Detail', I laugh.
'Detale' he repeats. I am completely surprised. Until his next sentence comes out:
'What's detale?' 
Sigh, never use difficult words which cannot be explained within two seconds, I decide.
